The white fluffs I often lovingly call “wishes”! I often don’t gather these unless I need seeds to sow. They will usually find a way to plant themselves but I don’t mind helping where I can. Some people gather these to make wearable crafts, I won’t be covering this in the dandelion rebellion.

Please take some time on this page to learn to care for your seeds. Remember not every seed will sow and it is a learning process! Be kind to yourself and keep trying!

Sowing Dandelion Seeds

The Seeds

An average of 15,000 seeds is produced per dandelion plant. There are usually 150-200 seeds per flower and up to 10 flowers per plant. They disperse themselves with the help of the wind.

Dandelions will grow almost anywhere! You can find them even in cracks in the sidewalk. They will thrive in shade, sunlight, warm or cool temperatures. While dandelions prefer fertile soil with distrubed edges, they can be found growing in poor or depleting soil.

The Sowing

If you found one a dandelion rebellion seed capsule and(or) a QR code or curiosity lead you to here. Here are some instructions on what to do with your new seeds! You could also gather dandelion seeds that you find outside in the wild and treat the same!

  • These seeds can be started indoors  6 to 8 weeks prior to the last frost.

  • Sow at a depth of 1/16” under topsoil in peat pots, transfer to the garden, bigger pots or anywhere outdoors when the weather is warm.

  • If you would like to directly sow the seeds outdoors (just plant in the ground) do so after all danger of frost has passed.

  • Place these seeds where they will get plenty of light, sunlight is important to the growth process. Water them daily!

  • Seeds will begin to germinate 14 to 28 days after sowing.

  • To give their roots ample room to grow, place the seeds or peat pots 6 to 8 inches apart.

  • Try planting other ally plants like bee balm or snapdragons in between the dandelions!
